His and Hers Matching ARs
Been telling Kathy KKBspace forever I was going to get us a pair of matching rifles. Wasn’t real high on the priority list, but finally got it done!
I better stay on her good side now…
Momentary focus of a random thought that peaked my attention
Collection of G+ Gun POsts
Learned Two things today
Actually learned one an remembered another.
Learned that the Birchwood Casey Spinning steel target that is supposed to be good up to 44 magnum doesn’t hold up to the 357. 2 shots, 2 large divots in the front and bulged on the back. Decided to finish practice on other targets (not steel). Looks like I’ll need to go to 1/2″ steel.
What I remembered (quickly!) was how much I love shooting my old model 28. I haven’t shot it much for quite some time. That being said, I won’t soon be forgetting this again anytime soon. I just went out to burn up some old ammo and have gotten reloading supplies.
Received or Ordered Nearly Everything for the ARs
Still need to get the gas blocks and buffer tubes…
.750" Adjustable Gas Block, Bleed Off – Clamp On, Melonite Finish
Ordered my uppers.
Been looking at these for a while. Went to order them about a week before Christmas, but they were out of stock.
Just looked again and they had them in. Ended up depleting their inventory by 2.

Bit the Bullet
Been wanting to get into reloading for quite a some time now (years). Finally decided to make it happen. Set the bench up yesterday and the press today. Made a few rounds and took them out back and made them go bang. Primers bulged on the 1st group. Got to checking different specs and changed OAL to what Hogdon has on their site. Next group was right. Quite a bit snappier than off the shelf target loads.
I had a bunch of old brass I tossed years ago when we moved, figuring at that point I would never get a press and reload. I wonder if the landfill would mind digging that up for me?
Overall the setup is pretty easy. I’ll make a couple more test groups pick what I like and make a run of them.
Threw a couple hundred rounds down range today
Even broke out the old model 28. It’s the gun I grew up with and still my favorite. It’s been quite a while since it’s seen any action. Nothing has changed, I still don’t miss with it.
Time to start cleaning. There is no better fragrance in the world than Hoppes #9!
