My ’86 Honda Shadow made me walk today

My ’86 Honda Shadow made me walk today

Didn’t walk long, I called a buddy to come pick me up.  Acted like it ran out of fuel, but I knew that wasn’t the problem.  This bike has an electric fuel pump and I figured that was the culprit.  After I got home I grabbed a bottle with a lid, some fuel line, and a jug of gas.  I had my wife take me back to my bike.  I disconnected the fuel line and put mine in it’s place and put the other end of the fuel line in a hole in the lid of the bottle.  Then I disconnected the power to the fuel pump (just in case it was or started pumping).  Filled the bottle with gas turned it upside down and strapped it to the handlebars.  Looked kinda goofy but it got me home.  I did have to squeeze the bottle a few times, because it was creating a vacuum.

Got to digging into it after I got home and found the pump to be OK, but the fuel pump relay wasn’t giving power to the pump.

New pump would have been ~120 – 160 dollars.  OEM relay is not available due to the age of the bike.  I may be able to find one that will work for a few dollars.  In the meantime I’ll jump the leads to the relay to bypass it 50 cent terminals and a couple inches of wire.  Good to go!

A little R&R at Wisconsin Dells with the grandkids

A little R&R at Wisconsin Dells with the grandkids

Kathy KKBspace & I took our grand boys Matthew & Cameron to Wisconsin Dells for a few days.

We hit a couple water parks and amusement parks.  Went climbing a rock wall, rope climbing, and laser tag.  I only got pictures of the laser tag (bummer).  This was the second time they played.  I played too the 1st time.

I guess I’m no spring chicken anymore.  Duck walking for a half hour makes your legs pretty sore.  The 2nd half of the week was rest & recuperation.  Still pretty sore, but had a blast with the kids!

Time with the grandkids

Time with the grandkids

Kathy picked up the grandkids to spend some time with us before over summer vacation!  They got back early this morning (just after midnight.)  Everyone but me and Cameron are still asleep…  Scratch that they all just woke up!  Time to get their vacation started.

A week with Mint KDE 13 RC

A week with Mint KDE 13 RC

Install was painless.

Audio did not work out of the box.  Unistalled pulseaudio, and removed HDMI from output choices.  All better!

Had a couple crazy bugs with Dolphin launching on logon for no reason???  Also on one reboot, had a bunch of stuff start on logon that would restart when closed, required me to go to a virtual console and restart KDM…  Don’t know what caused this, thankfully it did not reproduce.

A few control panel options did not apply when closed and required manual editing… I don’t remember which ones they were.

It’s KDE, and it’s still resource intensive.  This one seems to be very hungry.  I’ve a fairly decent setup and although I could see higher resources being used, I generally could not see a significant slowdown.  One thing I did notice that shouldn’t be was very high cpu cyles used on large file transfers.  This load should be on the SATA bus, and I have no idea why this load was taxing the cpu.

This just removed this distro & it won’t be my alternative to GNOME3.

Currently I’m test driving Mint LMDE with xfce.  From what I’ve seen so far I’m hoping I don’t get a ticket.  Yes, it’s quick!

Something else to attack

Something else to attack

OK, we’ve found the latest health risk of which the government must absolutely change the public’s mindset.

I would suggest the following to get the ball rolling:

1) Begin taxing sleep by the minute.  Incrementally increase this per minute charge as people start sleeping less in order to keep this tax revenue stable.

2)  Mandate that all chairs, sofas, and beds be plastered with extra large warning labels with slogans like “Doing nothing will kill you” while depicting some sloth covered with bedsores.

3)  Demand Mayor Bloomberg ban all overstuffed recliners.

4) In order to indoctrinate our youth all bleachers in school gymnasiums should be removed.

What else can you come up with?

Did the floating gray bar/area top of the Google+ pages quit floating down the page or is it possibly one of my extensions now causing it to disappear when I scroll down?   #IsItJustMe  Discovered it when I went to click to scroll back to the top.  EDIT:  No, it’s not just me per comments below.  Some it’s working for and some it’s not.  🙁  Can’t see the notifications when scrolling down as a result, either.

Been on my tablet for a few days so not sure when it even started.

Strange behavior in Chrome on Win 7

Strange behavior in Chrome on Win 7

Been noticing for a while now that the first time Chrome is launched after clean booting into Win 7 the pages in tabs do not load correctly.

I had a little time to troubleshoot and here is what I’ve found:

* Only happens after a cold boot or reboot then launching Chrome for the first time
* If I click in the address bar and hit enter the address in that tab will load
* I normally open 3 home tabs; G+, Twitter, and Google. The result is the same if reduced to only one tab (Google)
* I have 2 extensions installed in Chrome; goo.gl URL Shortener, and Replies and More
* If both extensions are disabled or removed all returns to normal
* If Replies and More extension only is enabled / re-installed all tabs load except the G+ tab. (Matt Mastracci, I still wouldn’t do without your extension. It should be baked into G+ as far as I’m concerned!)
* If goo.gl URL Shortener extension only is enabled / re-installed no tabs load correctly.
* I dual boot with Linux, on the Linux side all is well.

I’ve had these extensions installed for quite some time. This issue only recently came to light. I don’t know if google made a change to Chrome, a recent MS update knocked things out of whack (wouldn’t be the 1st time for that!), or if the extension developers made a change to the extensions.

It’s only a minor nuisance, but a bit annoying simply knowing that something isn’t quite right. Has anyone else seen this problem or have a possbible solution, besides the obvious..”It works in Linux, use Linux!”
